Coverdale Centre operates an emergency shelter for women. In 2013, 78 women stay at the shelter. It closes during the day, however women are welcome to go the nearby Coverdale Centre at 148 Waterloo St., where they have access to clothing, a sitting room with TV and telephone, as well programs and counselors available with no referral needed. Hestia House provides temporary shelter to women (aged 16 +) and children who are victims of family violence. They are a 24/7 facility which can accommodate 24 women and children. They provide a variety of services including: referrals to counseling, legal assistance, accompaniment to appointments, assistance with obtaining an income, and acquiring furnishings.
