Shelter Services

Coverdale Centre operates an emergency shelter for women.  In 2013, 78 women stay at the shelter. It closes during the day, however women are welcome to go the nearby Coverdale Centre at 148 Waterloo St., where they have access to clothing, a sitting room with TV and telephone, as well programs and counselors available with no referral needed. Phone: 634-0840.

First Steps Housing provides accommodations and a supportive environment for pregnant and parenting young mothers.  It has 12 beds and 9 cribs. Phone: 506-693-2228 email: info@firststepshousing.com for the 24hour helpline call 693-BABY (693-2229).

Hestia House provides temporary shelter to women (aged 16 +) and children who are victims of family violence. They are a 24/7 facility which can accommodate 24 women and children. They provide a variety of services including: referrals to counseling, legal assistance, accompaniment to appointments, assistance with obtaining an income, and acquiring furnishings. The Outflow men’s shelter provides emergency accommodations for men in Saint John experiencing homelessness.  They are located at 162 Waterloo Street.  For more information contact Tony Dickinson at anthony@outflowsj.com or by phone (506) 609-2346.

Safe Harbour provides emergency and transitional housing for youth experiencing homelessness. They are located at 50 Broad St, and can be reached at (506) 631-9883 or info@safeharboursj.ca.
